“A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night,
and in between he does what he wants to.”
- Bob Dylan
The
word “work” usually has a negative connotation surrounding it. Filled
with the images of things we do not want to do, must do, are forced to do, we forget that we have the choice and the opportunity
to engage ourselves in some sort of meaningful activity.
I
believe the negative image of work is unfortunate because of the idea that work is a simple bartering tool. In order to obtain, complete, achieve or succeed in anything, work, and usually hard work, seems to be
the price and also the preferred and widely accepted method of payment.
Work
is an action and a description of those things one deems important and worth completing fully. I believe that “working,”
in any form, does not define one’s intrinsic worth or identity, but helps shape one’s goals and personal ethics
that contribute to one’s character.
